My Happy Plan/WADT Fail

It's officially been one week since I began My Happy Plan challenge from Lindsay and I have to say that I think it's gone alright so far. This week I think I could award myself a C+ (rather than the F- I would give myself for the weeks before).

Here's how I did...

Exercise on a daily basis & Eat out less/eat healthier meals --- I think I did much better on the food front this week. We went grocery shopping last Monday, so we didn't "have" to eat out as much and we made sure to get a few healthy snacks so we didn't feel the need to munch on chips. Food = B+. Now for the exercise...I could definitely do much better. I tried to do a little something every day, but I definitely didn't do enough to get an actual workout in at all this week. Exercise = D. But I HAVE been logging my food, exercise, water, and vitamins all week! I love doing this. I think it keeps me on track.

EXAMPLE! (Green = exercise. Purple = vitamins. Orange = food. Blue = water.)

30 minutes recreational swimming
3 It Works Vitals
9:30am – ½ cup low-fat french vanilla yogurt with ½ cup Kashi Go Lean Crunch granola
12:30pm – 1 bowl blue corn chips with red pepper hummus,
1 cinnamon raisin swirl bagel with smart balance peanut butter and banana
5:15pm – ½ cup low-fat cottage cheese with ½ cup applesauce, 16oz water
7:00pm – Chili’s avocado burger and fries with ranch, 20oz water

I love this and I will definitely keep doing it. Another thing I'd like to add to my routine though is this...

I spotted this over at Teaching in Heels and I think it's the perfect workout for beginners. Gotta try!

Less sweats, more real clothes --- I wore a dress last Tuesday, wore my new Old Navy shorts a few times, and spent the whole weekend in my new bathing suit, so I'd say I'm doing pretty well so far! Clothes = B.

Spend less/save more --- FAIL. I know we need stuff for our honeymoon and that I need new clothes because I'm losing weight (WIN), but we've spent a ridiculous amount of money this weekend. Between new clothes for me, 2 camera bags, a book, 3 swimsuits for me (2 of which will be returned, I just needed options), and a new water bottle for Josh...Oy. It hurts just thinking about it. Money = F. Gotta get some sort of budget going here.

Develop my role as a wife --- I think this has been going a little better this week. I cooked a little more (not anything too exciting though), finally hung a few things on the walls, and have kept the house clean (not quite organized yet). I think creating a budget, putting together meal plans, and getting the rest of the unpacked mess organized will put me in a higher grade though. For now, Wifeyness = B.

Socialize more with other women --- I did much better this week! This past weekend Josh and I spent 2 whole days at the pool with some friends of ours (another military couple) that lives down the block from us.  We loved hanging out at the pool with them and we had dinner with them both nights. On Saturday night we went to Chili's and on Sunday night we had meatloaf at their place. Cortney and I get along well, so hopefully this can develop into more than just hanging out as couples and maybe into a friendship. Socializing = B+.

Yes, today is Wear A Dress Tuesday, but I'm busy hanging things up on the walls, deep-cleaning the apartment, and staining furniture, so I've forgone wearing a dress or skirt for today. But I will be back next week, I promise!

I hope you all enjoyed your Memorial Day weekend and are off to a great start to another week!

This past Friday Josh had the day off, so we spent the day watching Trailer Park Boys...

Every episode I watch makes me *thiiiis* much stupider. I swear.

...eating yummy food...

Greatest sweet rolls, fries, and ranch on the planet!

...and shopping!!!

I looked exactly like this.

Most of the purchases were for me and most of my purchases were for Hawaii. We've almost got everything we need for our trip, so I'm getting pretty darn excited!!!

A while back, when Josh and I started planning our honeymoon, I emailed Rachel over at Suitcase Secrets asking her what I should wear in Hawaii. I told her everything we had planned for the trip and what I normally find myself wearing (plain tanks and shorts) and she emailed back with this post to her lovely blog and when we went shopping this weekend I kept her suggestions in mind as well as my Lust Lists *1* and *2*.

Above are Rachel's suggestions and below are the things I've purchased so far.

Freya Riviera Bikini

Target Cover-Up
I've already had a chance to try out my new swim suit and cover-up! Saturday and Sunday we spent the day at our neighborhood pool with some friends of ours that live just down the block. The swimsuit fits great! I'm so lucky to have found it at Lingerie Lingerie.

Beachy dresses from Target!

Floor-Length Maxi Dress

Strapless Floral Mini Dress
These dresses will be perfect for touring the island or just hanging out in Honolulu. I'm surprised I even tried a maxi dress, since they tend to make me look frumpy, but this one is slimming and gorgeous!

Evening dresses from Von Maur!

These dresses are both comfortable and gorgeous. They fit my body very well and are so flattering! I can't wait to wear these dresses out to fancy Pacific Rim restaurants.

Jean shorts from Old Navy!

Beachy sandals from Target!
I love these shorts from Old Navy. Normally it's tough for me to find shorts that are both modest and stylish, but this summer ON got smart and made shorts to fit perfectly. And these gorgeous (yet, not so comfy) sandals work great with just about all my pretty dresses.

That's what I've got so far. I love pretty things! There are still a few more items left to get, like beach towels, travel toothbrush cases, a pair of heels, and a few tank tops, but other than that I think we're just about set to go!

How do you adjust to sleeping with another person?

Sharing the bed, the covers, the pillows...it's all ridiculously hard to get used to.

Neither of us has had a great night's sleep since we've moved in together, which is odd since our mattress and sheets are suuuuuper comfy.

So how do you do it? How do you go from having a full bed, 2 pillows, and all the covers to sharing it all, bumping elbows, and wishing he would stop snoring so you can get some shut-eye? HOW?

The View

No. Not the TV show. Sorry, ladies!

I'm talking about the view from our apartment! We've lived here for almost a month and I haven't posted ANY pictures for you at all! Bad blogger, I know.

I'd love to be able to share some major pictures, but right now we're still in the "setting up" phase so we've got picture frames, mirrors, lamps, and unstained chairs (bad DIY'er too) lying everywhere. It's not a pretty sight. Very unattractive.

But I would like to share a little somethin', somethin' since I've been holding out on you, so today you get to see..........THE VIEW FROM EVERY WINDOW IN OUR APARTMENT! Woohoo!

The window on Josh's side of the bed looks out to the main street running through our neighborhood.

The window on my side of the bed looks out to the paths behind our apartment buildings.

Here's a better view of the path you can see from my window.

The view from the kitchen sink = more paths behind the building.

Our sliding door in the living room also overlooks the paths behind the building.
TA-DA! Wasn't that wonderful and exciting??? I thought so. As you can see we have lots of trees and grass surrounding our lovely building and that's one of the many reasons we chose this place; it doesn't feel like an apartment complex. It feels homey and full of life!

Now I have one more picture for you...This next picture is a sneak peak of what's to come! When everything (and I mean Ev. Ree. Thing.) is painted, put together, hung on the walls, re-upholstered...then I'll post the final pictures. =) Until then, you'll just have to make due with this.

Good morning, everyone!

Today's Wednesday again! I feel like the weeks are flying by, but I'm enjoying them nonetheless.

Ready for WILW with Jamie? Good. So am I!

Today I'm loving...

*The freedom to I have to lie on the couch. Shooting pains in my back = Not doing anything today.

*Ingrid Michaelson. All of her music just gets me. Great listening for a lazy day.

*The sunshine outside! After rain all last week it's about time we saw the sun.

*That we have a full fridge and pantry. I'm so thankful that we have enough money to provide for ourselves (and the fact that the comissary's prices are so low helps a lot too).

*That I got to spend the entire weekend and half of Tuesday with the hubby. He rarely gets a full weekend off, so we enjoyed ourselves by earning moola selling stuff on Craigslist and shopping for bathing suits for Hawaii. Yesterday was particularly nice too, as Josh got to come home for the morning in between PT and his mission for the day. I love days like that.

*Kissing! It's weird. When we were long-distance we used to make-out like hormonal teenagers whenever we saw each other (TMI?). That's recently become old news, but yesterday we amped up the kissing and it was awesome. Definitely doing that more often. =)

What are you loving today? Feel free to link up with Jamie for What I'm Loving Wednesday and to link up with Lindsay for the My Happy Plan challenge.

I hope you're all enjoying life this week!

New Me - Pt. 2/My Happy Plan/Wear A Dress Tuesday

Today is a big day for me in the blog world. Starting today, my Tuesdays will consist of My Happy Plan AND Wear A Dress Tuesday!  I'm so psyched to get started on these blog challenges/link-ups.  =)

 My Happy Plan

Today I'm linking up with Lindsay over at My Happily Ever After! A while back, Lindsay started her "My Happy Plan" posts in an effort to keep herself physically, socially, and emotionally on track once her baby fever kicked it into high gear. I've really appreciated her honesty and enjoy reading her weekly posts. Hopefully her new link-up will help other women in the blog world just as it's helped her! Let's get started...

First, I should explain my reason for wanting to participate in the Happy Plan link-ups. If you've been reading for the past few months you already know that I really struggle with my weight, and not just my weight, but the way my body looks. I've got huge boobs, a tiny waist, and wide hips --- making it really difficult physically and emotionally to ever shop for clothes. I've also got a few genetic issues that have plagued my self-confidence and held me back for years. These are the physical issues I'd like to address.

But along with those, I have some emotional distractions as well. Like many women, I know deep in my heart that I'm supposed to be a mother. I've always known it. That's part of the reason why I enjoy daycare and nannying so much. But Josh and I both know that, at this point, we're not ready to start our family. The time-line that we currently have in place (which can change due to changing circumstances) has really been bumming me out lately. Instead of focusing on the amazing life Josh and I have together RIGHT NOW, I've been obsessing about the even more amazing life we'll have once we start our family. I'd really like to get to a place where I can truly enjoy the life I have with Josh at this moment and be able to keep my baby fever under control.

And 3 other, less intricate issues at hand are 1) Josh and I really need to get a handle on our spending and develop a budget, 2) I'd like to make more girlfriends. I started some great relationships with girls that I worked with back in Illinois, but after moving I've realized that those relationships have unfortunately faded. I'd really love to put myself out there more and socialize more with women. And 3) Develop my role as a wife and "household runner." This includes budgeting, cooking, keeping the house in order, etc.

Ready for the bullet points? Here goes nothin'!

  • Exercise on a daily basis --- This can be walking, me-on-top sex, swimming, attempting a yoga class, crunches and push-ups...whatever. But my goal is to get at least 30 minutes of exercise in EVERY DAY. I'll also track my completed exercise in a notebook or calendar to remind myself just how easy it is to get moving.
  • Eat out less/eat healthier meals --- So far, since moving in together, Josh and I have overhauled our eating habits. At home. We're eating more fresh foods, switched to whole grain pastas and breads, switched to almost all low-fat/salt options, etc. But we've also been eating out a TON. We both have already agreed that this needs to change (as we're losing money and gaining weight), so the goal is to eat out only ONCE a month, unless it's completely unavoidable.
  • Less sweats, more real clothes --- I worked at a fitness center for 6 months and my uniform was a t-shirt and sweats. I got so used to just "throwing something on" that I've completely forgotten what it's like to put legitimate effort into dressing myself. As of right now, I'm a homebody until July when I start my job, so it's hard for me to feel the need to put "real" clothes on every day unless I'm going somewhere. But I've noticed that it makes me feel lazy and sloppy and not pretty at all. So the goal here is to exercise first thing in the morning, shower, and then put on a real outfit so I don't feel like such a bum. That's kind of where Wear A Dress Tuesday comes in! It'll force me out of sweats and into something feminine and pretty!
  • Spend less/save more --- The amount of money we've been spending lately is absolutely absurd. Yes, there are tons of things we've been needing or already had planned, but we're still spending too much. Some things, like a bathing suit for me for Hawaii, are necessary and ridiculously expensive. Other things, like eating out together 4 times in one week (not including the times we ate out separately), are avoidable and add up quickly. It's time we put together a budget and stuck to it. The only problem...I have no idea where to start. Any tips or resources for doing this as a newlywed couple would be greatly appreciated!
  • Develop my role as a wife --- Josh and I both strongly believe in equality between the sexes, but we're also a bit traditional as well when it comes to roles. Josh leaves for work by 0500 almost every morning and works long hours. When he comes home, it's only fair that the house is clean and calm and that dinner is ready, especially since I'm at home all the time (for now) and running our household is my "job." My mom was Super Woman. She woke my brother up, showered, packed his lunch, drove him to school, went to work, came home, did a few loads of laundry, and had dinner on the table EVERY SINGLE DAY of my life. She did it all and then some and still managed to keep her sanity. I want to be like that, so my goal during this time in our marriage is to have laundry done and put away consistently, have dinner ready when Josh gets home, and keep the house clean. It sounds simple, and it is, but actually doing it is going to be the challenge.
  • Socialize more with other women --- As I mentioned above, I don't have many girlfriends. I love spending time with Josh and I love it when Josh and I hang out with other couples together, but I'd also love to have "girl time." I think it's really important as a woman to have that time when it's just the girls, and having just moved to the area, it's high time I make some friends.
So that's My Happy Plan! I know it's long, and I apologize for that (kinda), but I'm so excited to get going on all of this and to share my progress with all of you! =) Feel free to link up with Lindsay and start your own Happy Plan!

Wear A Dress Tuesday

Today's my first time participating in WADT and I'm so excited! Josh and I went to the mall this past weekend to see if I could find any dresses or skirts for me, but I'm not willing to spend $50 at American Eagle for one dress. Sorry! I'll definitely be hitting up Kohls and Target soon though. =) But for now, I'll use a few things I already have in my closet.

Please ignore the mess and the wet hair look.
Today I walked, but other than that I'm staying home, so I picked out something comfy, but still a little girly. Simple! I actually do feel a little prettier and on top of that, the hubby (who's home in between missions) has been telling me all morning how cute I am. =)

Lust List #2

Remember that Lust List that I started on Saturday? Well, I have another one. And this one's completely dedicated to swimsuits!

But this one has me a tiny bit less excited than the one I made for summer dresses. Why? Because I'm a larger chested woman. And when I say 'large' I mean LARGE. Double-H, baby. I also tend to be a little more modest...so buying swimsuits, bras, dresses, and shirts is a HUGE (pun intended) pain in the butt. And I have a problem finding things to fit me because my chest is huge, but the rest of my body is average size. However, I've been doing a little research and I think I might have found some suits that will work with my body instead of against it.

Let's keep our fingers crossed, shall we?

What do you think of these bathing suits? Know of any stores that sell bathing suit tops for large-chested women like myself? What are you lusting after this bathing suit season?

Lust List #1

Lately I've been lustful.

So lustful that I've decided to share my cravings with all of you!

Don't worry, it's not the naughty kind of lust. It's the "I-want-so-many-beautiful-things-at-once" kind of lust. I'm starting this little Lust List for a few reasons...1) To keep all my ideas of in one place and 2) To help me make up my mind about what I'd like to buy for Hawaii / New Me / Wear A Dress Tuesday.

Today's Lust List is all about summer dresses. I'm hoping this list will help me narrow down what I love enough to buy. =)

What do you think of these dresses? Any thoughts on the beginning of the Lust Lists?
